At a score of 9 to 1, the Racers easily out-maneuvered the Gators on Wednesday April 25, in the Winter 2012 Final of the Greater Burlington Coed Floor Hockey League sponsored by Vermont Floor Hockey, to capture the League Championship.  See the Racers celebrate here.

The Gators finished 5th during the regular season, 11 points behind the Racers who finished in third place with a goal differential of 45 compared to -12 for the Gators. The Gators secured their place in the final by surprising the first place Habs in the semi-final, while the Racers bypassed the second place Chiefs.

In this final game, the Gators were very strong defensively during the first quarter of the game. It took a lucky bounce off the Gators goalie’s head to allow the Racers to score their first goal.

With the score 4-0 after the first half, the Racers scored again early in the second period but the Gators quickly revived their hopes with what turned out to be their only goal of the game. The more skillful Racers got the better of the Gators and added four more goals before the end of the game to pocket the victory and the Championship.

For some of the Racers, it was their second championship title as a team. Goalie C. Chase, T. Marsha, C. Prior and J. Vaughan were all part of the Winter 2011 team that clinched the Greater Burlington League Championship title that season.  The other members of the Winter 2012 Racers include N. Charland, B. Hannessey, J. Kelly, D. Lafferiere, L. MacDonald, J. Prior and former goalie N. Boucher.

The Greater Burlington League Racers will now face off against the Night Hawks, the Champions of the Barre-Montpelier League, in the Club Championship game for the conquest of the Vermont Floor Hockey Cup. The game will be held on Sunday April 29 at 6:00 pm at the Edge in Essex.
